The old newlywed game, played on two phones, with no studio audience and nothing to buy.
What you need
Two phones
The free game with no sign up: play.weeklydatenight.com
The game was built for this newsletter. Nothing either of you types is saved, and the room deletes itself as soon as you finish.
The plan
One of you opens play.weeklydatenight.com. Tap “Just us” and then “Start a game”.
It shows a six-character code. The other opens the same page, types the code into the box under “Join with a code”, and taps Join. You each type a name and tap “Save”, then either of you taps “Start”.
Sit at opposite ends of the couch, far enough apart that neither of you can read the other screen. For each question, one of you guesses how the other will answer and locks it in. Then the other answers for real. Neither of you sees anything until both are in.
Add some popcorn and something to drink.
The conversation
One. Which of my answers surprised you most, and what did you think I would say?
Two. What is one thing you want to be true about us a year from now that is not true yet?
Three. What do you wish I asked you about more often?
The point
Knowing someone is not something you finish. People keep changing. Something you knew that was right five years ago goes out of date.
